Latent Print Examiner Certification Process

Application forms and instructions for their submission should be obtained from the Secretary of the Latent Print Certification Board.

The completed application should be returned to the Secretary of the Certification Board together with the application fee of $150.00 which is not refundable.

Only those persons who believe they clearly meet the stated qualifications and requirements for certification should submit applications.

The division encompassing the area in which the applicant practices may bill the Latent Print Certification Board for one-third (1/3) of the application fee to defray the cost incurred by the division in processing the application, conducting the necessary investigation and testing the applicant.

The remaining two-thirds will be retained by the Certification Board to defray expenses involved in records keeping, preparation of test material, certificates, correspondence and necessary travel.

Attach two (2) recent photographs to the application.

Attach two (2) letters of endorsement (see Section 3.E).

Attach a signed form affirming the IAI Certified Latent Print Examiner's Code of Ethics as stated in Section 2.

Qualifications, requirements, fees, and application procedures for certification are subject to revision by the Latent Print Certification Board. The latest official version is always obtainable from the Secretary of the Certification Board.

Names of all applicants for certification will be published in the Journal of Forensic Identification.

Anyone having information bearing on the qualifications of an applicant should furnish such information to the respective Division Latent Print Certification Committee or to the Secretary of the Latent Print Certification Board.
