2009 - Application for Presentation - Tampa
The 94th International Educational Conference of the International Association for Identification will be held August 16th - 22nd, 2009 in Tampa, Florida, USA.
The Educational Coordinator is requesting the submission of an abstract and learning objectives for all workshops (example provided); a brief synopsis of the learning objectives for all lectures (example provided); and a biographical sketch on all presenters (example provided). These submissions should be on all topics of interest to the investigative and forensic science community. Papers selected for presentation will be divided into two groups:
- Lectures
- Workshops
All presentations must be submitted through the Presentation Application Form. All Abstracts, Synopses and Biographical Sketches must be electronically submitted separately to edcoordinator@theiai.org. Applications for workshops are closed at this time. Synopses for all lectures are due by January 31, 2009. The Coordinator will approve, in conjunction with the Sub-Committee Chairpersons, all workshops and lectures within 90 days of submission.
Notice of Rejection
Notice of rejection will be sent to all applicants no later than 90 days after submission for acceptance. If you DO NOT receive this notice within 90 days of submission, consider your application for presentation accepted and plan accordingly. Remember, that you are responsible for making your own arrangements for the conference, which includes registration.
Attention — Presentations and Workshops provided by Vendors
The IAI welcomes vendor presentations at the Annual Conference. Please note however that vendor presentations cannot be a commercial for a product or line of products (exception would only be if you are doing a presentation in the exhibitors' theater). Presentations may highlight and explain new technology, techniques or developments in procedures and methods. It is, for example, not permissible to make a presentation on a technique that can only be done with a vendor's product or showcase a developing technology that is only available from a particular vendor. Failure to abide by this policy may result in being prohibited from making presentations at future conferences. We anticipate and appreciate your adherence to this policy.
Lectures
General Information
Each presenter will be given an opportunity to select the forensic discipline for the lecture that is being presented. Select “General” if the lecture involves multiple disciplines, unless presenter has a preference to present before a certain discipline. IAI disciplines currently include:

Workshop applications are now closed for 2009.

Biographical Sketches
All biographical sketches have a maximum word requirement of 120 words or less. All sketches must be submitted electronically to the edcoordinator@theiai.org using USA versions of Microsoft Word or WordPerfect. All biographical sketches will be printed in the conference program. An example of a biographical sketch is provided below:
Doe, John - is the laboratory director of the Washington State of Investigation. He has more than 15 years of experience in bloodstain pattern analysis. John has been teaching classes in bloodstain pattern analysis for more than 8 years and has taught at forensic laboratories, universities and professional organizations in more than fourteen states and Canada. John is currently the chairmen of the IAI Bloodstain Pattern Identification Sub-Committee and is certified by the IAI as a Senior Crime Scene Analyst, Certified Bloodstain Pattern Examiner and a Certified Latent Print Examiner.
Synopses
All synopses for lecture have a maximum word requirement of 75 words or less. All synopses must be submitted electronically to the edcoordinator@theiai.org using USA versions of Microsoft Word or WordPerfect. The synopsis should have a short title, the name(s) of the presenter(s), work title(s) and addresses exactly as you wish them to appear. Include IAI discipline certifications, if any, after the name. All synopses will be printed in the conference program. Example of a synopsis is provided below:

This presentation will cover how physical developer is made, how it is used, theory behind development of latent fingerprints and research done to improve development of latent prints that allows the process to be more cost effective.
