Latent Fingerprint Examiner
The Vermont Forensic Laboratory (VFL) is seeking a qualified Latent Print Examiner to join our small, dedicated team of highly motivated professionals.
The Vermont Forensic Laboratory is located in Waterbury Vermont. It is an ASCLAD/LAB accredited facility, which is part of the Criminal Justice Services Division of the Vermont Department of Public Safety, providing comprehensive forensic services to all law enforcement agencies in the State of Vermont.
Duties
The Latent Print Examiner will analyze and compare latent prints received by the VFL from Vermont law enforcement agencies. Collect and preserve latent prints and other physical evidence in a lab setting, and may provide advice regarding the collection of evidence at major crime scenes. Our comparison unit offers state of the art equipment. We have upgraded almost all aspects of our work environment and have recently installed a state of the art LIMS system to assist in evidence tracking and report writing.
The duties of the person we are seeking will be to locate, develop, recover and preserve latent impressions on a wide variety of materials and surfaces using physical, chemical, electronic, and optical techniques. Administer UV/ IR equipment, and other special forensic photographic procedures, including digital imaging devices. Evaluate and enter suitable latent prints into the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) as well as make comparisons with known impressions. Determine identifications and non-identifications by comparison and verification of each latent print and produce reports concerning results of analysis. The lab strives to adhere to all aspects of a modern approach to comparison science and you will be in a supportive environment and surrounded by a motivated team.
Our latent fingerprint examiners may also provide training in the proper collection, preservation, and documentation of impression evidence to law enforcement personnel and testify in criminal legal proceedings as needed concerning methods of analysis and results.
Qualifications
The person we seek will ideally have a number of years experience as a Latent Fingerprint Examiner and some experience or understanding of the small lab forensic environment.
