Approved courses are not an endorsement of the training by the IAI/FCMB. Approval indicates topics are within the scheme of a certification and the instructor has training in the topics taught.
Certified Footwear Examiner Rosters
General Information
**The Footwear Certification Board announces a change to the written test administered prior to initial certification**
Beginning January 1, 2027, the written test reading materials will no longer include several of the SWGTREAD Guide documents or the IAI Recommended Course of Study for Footwear and Tire Track Examiners as currently outlined in Section 8.3 Footwear Certification References.
Starting January 1, 2027, the new reading materials will include the following documents:
· Forensic Footwear Evidence, Bodziak, W.J., 1st Edition, 2017, CRC Press.
· SWGTREAD Range of Conclusions Standard for Footwear and Tire Impressions Examinations, 2013.
· ANSI/ASB Best Practice Recommendation 021, First Edition, 2019. Best Practices for the Preparation of Test Impressions from Footwear and Tires.
· ANSI/ASB Best Practice Recommendation 049, First Edition, 2020. Best Practices for Lifting of Footwear and Tire Impressions.
· ANSI/ASB Best Practice Recommendation 050, First Edition, 2021. Best Practice Recommendation for Photographic Documentation of Footwear and Tire Impression Evidence.
· ANSI/ASB Best Practice Recommendation 052, First Edition, 2022. Best Practice Recommendation for Detection and Collection of Footwear and Tire Impression Evidence.
· ANSI/ASB Best Practice Recommendation 126, First Edition, 2020. Best Practice Recommendation for Casting Footwear and Tire Evidence at the Crime Scene.
· ANSI/ASB Standard 095, First Edition, 2020. Standard for Minimum Qualifications and Training for a Footwear/Tire Forensic Science Service Provider.
